On my forums, all different IP's. And they came from no where. The # just started to go up and up....

What's up?

Try traceing them, or looking up the IP. It's quite possibly a number of search robots visiting your site.

Well it did stop, at 1,080 guests on at one time. It was not major bots like google or anything like that, because they would have shown as google etc.

Sounds like someone was playing DoS your forum with bogus requests via proxies. ;)

You could have shown the user agent. I have some guests that come to my site and just display an IP, and I display the user agent in who's online, and it will show MSNBot or whatever bot it is...

Either it could have been that or you could be being DoSsed... Did server load go up a bit while you had so many guests?

It was not msnbot or google or archive.org, it would have shown up as that, because of the settings I put. The server load was at .2. And when I disabled viewing of the boards by guests, forcing them to log in. They all left. And as soon as I enabled it, they came back.

Hmm. Has your host or datacenter said anything about it? Are the IPs all from the same class? Perhaps it was one of those stupid traffic faker scripts...

Hmmm.... I saw on one board, a bunch of requests from GigaBot, and some other odd ones.

Well, During those 1,080 guests were on, If it was an attack, would have I pushed a gig of bw that night?

Most likely it was a DoS attack from multiple bots on infected servers.

Nope, most ddos bots don't do that.

However, it was most likely a search engines or a flood of bots but NOT ddos bots.

Check in your user agent when this happens. I wouldn't say it is bad. When it goes past 1,500 then check it out major.
