at least, i thought i would avoid spamming by doing so.

what would you say?

I don't disable email services but I also keep a very low amount of users and strict user entrance etc so I haven't seen any problems yet.

I haven't yet Ive come very close though. I will be offering free e-mails out of a seperate program (hivemail) and that way I can control spam.

I had problems with Spam just make sure you configure Exim right otherwise pop plop those emails will go

With free hosting it is not advisable to offer emails to avoid spams

Well, you can offer email you just have to configure Exim or your mail server in such a way Spam dosen't get out of hand or crash your server or even happen at all.
