lol.
So I woke up this morning, thinking I was just going to approve the usual 5-10 new members I get well I sleep and BAM. 178 clients pending.
At first my reaction was that someone was being a bit of a jerk and just created a bunch of phoney requests. I checked about half of them, none were the case!
After some careful research (fiddling around) I discovered that a major chinese site (I couldn't read what the site was about) had listed me.
I guess them chinese really like their free stuff eh?
On a side note: Does anyone know how to force php ad's without it messing up?

i had to put livesite into isolation due the amount of signup requests i got from them even though my TOS specificly say NO! on top of that im getting constant email viruses attempting to come through

Nothing against the Chinese, but when I ran a free host, that was the biggest problem I had. TOS clearly stated English only sites, but I got flooded with Chinese sites, most of them hosting illegal content anyway.

welcome to the club, why do you think that i had to close down livesite, but it seems as soon as i posted about livesite here, i started getting signups from there and its where all the trouble began,
and no im not blaming you guys who run this forum

i think they really like freestuffs!!
You will find the chinese users are abusers... Not all of them but a big share upload files/photos and before you know it they have used 10 gigs of bw.
As far as forced ads one method is mod_layout. It does mess up gzip, but most scripts will still work with out gzip.

yea, that's a bit scary.. I just started hosting free accounts today - and they must have found my site listed here, because i had 10 sign up's in 20mins - so i just banned the ip range.

Do signups from those chinese ips ever create actual web pages or anything? or is it all just pirated files.
Some of them create sites, but if its not porn it is a site with free software.

I just started to get bombarded with new Chinese signups too. I am finding tho, a lot seemed to be putting up landing pages for their real website... or even installing a forum called Discuz (very similar to phpBB).
I don't think the abuse problems are specific to China... I think it comes with the Free hosting territory in general.
I found this page very usefull for translations:

Wanna see this page in Chinese ?

We have had many Chinese abuse problems and find our site listed on several Chinese porno forums. We have resolved some of this by blocking specific IP ranges and finely going through registrations to deny Asian users. Not a racism issue there just a headache.

Hello,
Yeah I thought my hosting company was doing great when I first created it. Only to find out almost all of my signups were illegal sites created by users from China. I solved the problem by usings XPanel's cool little "block a country" feature. Like Jeff said I'm not racist...just smart.

Can you give me an example of one of these "illegal sites" or "abuse" you were finding ? I have been checking my users stuff and all seems fine. No pr0n, warez, spam scripts, etc., I find we get more of this with our paying customers from other countries. Maybe its too early yet... but like I said, my members seem to be putting up normal sites. I am not going to place any bans or blocks without being able to justify it.
Thanks,
peterz

If you don't want to deal with Chinese users, set up geo-ip and redirect them away from your server before they can even see it. I personally welcome the Chinese to my service. There are a few who try to cause problems but the trick is anticipating what they are going to do and stop them before they start.
