Default SurfSpeedy: A Mess for Free Hosts
SurfSpeedy is the worst mess I have ever run into. They lied to me and ultimately screwed me over in the end. It is because of SurfSpeedy that we are still unable to accept signups and we are still doing a lot of changes.

I was told by Surfspeedy that they are concerned about my abuse. That is fair enough.
They told me that in the future they may fine me. I asked them how much the fines would be and Mike told me this:

So I immediately created a ticket asking the support (I was on a managed server) to install mod_layout so I could insert some antiphishing script. During that time I asked Kevin if I could resume signups while they installed the scripts (it had been 8 days from when I asked and they still hadn't started) and Kevin told me this:

So I resumed signups and then a day later I my server went down suddenly, and my reboots weren't working. I created a ticket asking about this and I got this response from Mike:

So all of a sudden they went back on both of their statements. They said I could resume signups, and fees ranged from $25-50. Now all of a sudden they want to fine me for 4 different fines (which they said they wouldn't do) and then furthermore they decided that they would fine me $250/each instead of $25 (maybe they misplaced a 0, I do not know). This comes out to a fine of $1000 to get my server back online!

I was lied to twice. They screwed me, cost me $xxx in profits and now I have to pay $xxx/mo each for two servers (since they decided to start fining me 1 day after I just paid for the next month), and my reputation has been severely hurt. I would like let everybody know that SurfSpeedy is a cheap company, and they want to lie and screw you over.

Stay away at all costs!

Note: This happened 2-3 weeks ago. I waited to post, because if I did then I probably would have gotten myself banned due to innapropriate language

Gosh, that's bad too. Do you think you'll move to a different provider?

I was forced to move out. Since I'm not paying the $1000 I had to cancel. I am currently using an unmanaged Canadian Providor. They seem very good, and I have been hard at work coding a firewall that stops all of this phishing. Currently the tests are looking good, and I think in the end I'll end up selling the product as well

Yeah, it was really bad and we are still recovering very much so.

good thinking to move, it is cheaper to buy a new dedicated server

SurfSpeedy uses LayeredTEch, LT probably told them enough was enough as LT has zero tolerance for abuse

But I was with another LT reseller, and they had nothing of the sort. They simply took me down until I got rid of the data, and then eventually politely asked me to leave. They never fined me at all. SurfSpeedy told me themselves that their own abuse team were the ones who came up with the fines. I even e-mailed LT and they said that they don't give out abuse fines. So I think this was all SurfSpeedy's doing.
EDIT: Sent PM to both Pipsta and Hosting.UploadFX.com

how does a phishing firewall work? is that even possible, phising sites go out on port 80, normal sites go out on port 80, how is it possible therefore to filter it?

thanks

I don't know if it is a "server firewall" per say. Rather it is a code that is prepended on every page (I have php enabled on html files as well). It then evaluates the code of the page that is loading, checks for any issues. It then processes the number of positives, and based on the number of positives and the degree of them it either does nothing, prints a small warning, prints a large warning, exits out of the code, and/or deletes the file on the spot.

Sound good?

I'm sure that there are none, but if you find some sort of issue or flaw with the idea, please PM me about it rather then posting it on the forum for all to see

Sounds great ZendURL - these companies must be completely off their mind to throw you out with such a scanning facility... (as compared to the crappy companies that don't even think about them)
