I am thinking about buying a fast growing image host. it sues alot of bw a month, but I have a few servers with leftover resources.

I don't want to watermark the images so thats out. how do you make any money off this? 404 errors? adds on the image host upload page? anything I am missing? Thank you for your time!

Ads work fine for me, ad sense makes a good amount, I don't know of any other way :-/.

You might want to try CPM campaigns as well. They should earn you enough to cover server costs. :D

Hi!
We are thinking about the same issues.
We are going to give Adsense a try , other seem to be using it.
But I think selling individual banners when u get going might even beat that.

BTW, how fast growing is that one u are thinking about?

well, in my experience, adsense is the biggest waste of time and space you will find! I used adsense for 2 months on 20 accounts and never earned a penny!

Unfortunate, because I know many that are doing quite well.

But you can also try more targetted affiliate programs.

my experience. got into adsense for only a month. and already got some revenue which is more than enough to pay one of my server.

the thing is, if your site dont have visitors, there is no way you can get paid.

Good for you.
What type of a business is it?

Just a tip here..

Image hosting is fine for some but, I tried my hand at it as a free industry vetern and found it to be a waste of resources.

If you're going to do it.. make it so they can't hotlink images and get the cheapest 10mbit unmetered server you can find as it will eat alot of bandwidth. ;)

Oh and buying one.. almost always a waste of money. Make sure you get stats on unique advertisement impressions and not just unique visitors. If they allow hotlinking there will be alot more 'visitors' than there are people view advertisements.

We are trying all types of models. Some we allow hotlinking but have a smaller max size, some we don't allow hotlinking but have many more features.

Bandwidth has not been a problem (yet), we are non adult and delete each bad pic and have programmers nearing some automated solutions.

And that is why I think you may know, we are buying out image hosts with traffic and or good scripts or domains names.

We have gotten three in the last 2 weeks.

Revenue depends on the amount of sites you're displaying them on. 20 sites isn't that much, especially if they are all very low traffic (which it sounds like they are)
