Question Server Budget
Hi everyone,

My name is Todd, and I'm running the Xeta Space free web host, and I just have a quick question.

How do people who have dedicated servers costing $100+/month pay their bills? I know advertising is one way, but I put ads everywhere except for member's websites (since it's the way I want to run it) and I have only made $100 over the past 4 months.

In terms of donations, I have only received one donation which wasn't much, so that hasn't worked.

I also offered space for people to advertise but that has been turned down.

I even tried reselling my web hosting for a cheaper price than most and nothing turned up yet.

What would be some ways to earn revenue to pay for a dedicated server costing $100 or more?

I'm not in this predicament, since I own a very cheaply-paid VPS, but if I were to purchase a dedicated server, would there be some websites that pay a lot for advertising? Or is there some alternative method to this?

Thanks,
Todd

What would be some good places to use advertising? I'm using AdSense, but it doesn't seem to be doing too well. Any suggestions?

Perhaps you're giving your users too many resources? If you could put more users on one server, you would definitely be increasing your revenue per server.

As for advertising, if AdSense isn't working well, perhaps try AdBrite, or Adversal.

Currently, I have over 100 users.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a look at Adversal. I've already seen AdBrite. I'll give it another shot.

i would say reduce their plans and bring some interesting referral incentives.. like if u sign up 10 more people then u would get 50mb more hosting space etc..

That would be a good idea as well. It would certainly drive interest, if nothing else.

Interesting. That'd be good. Wouldn't it be a problem though since all websites are ad-free? I just choose not to force advertisements on their websites since there are so many that do.

Get more visitors.

I pay much more then you on servers (I have multiple servers), and find that AdSense, and CPA Hosting ads both make about the same for me (they both have virtually the same eCPM); and put together (with the homepage ads alone) they make more then enough to pay my server/support bills.
