I started a new free image and forum hosting site this weekend.

I was wondering what the best way to go about generating some traffic is.

I have started to talk about it in a few forums that I am active in but there has to be a better way.

I would suggest first submitting to search engines, doing link exchanges so that you can get alot of backlinks, and advertising on forums just like this.

Why any one will run free image hosting ?

Lot of people will upload images and post it in different web sites. Will it help any way other than using up your bandwidth ?

Also few regular users are going to upload number of high quality adult images and post it in some high traffic forum in single page, so your server will slow down, just like getting a DDoS. For example if the site have 100 visitors on that page and the user put 20 pics, then 2,000 requests to your server.

Found few offer paid imagehosting with limited free image hosting, that can make some profit, but HOW when you are running completely free ?

Well if you have a dedicated server it will not be effected much but you make money from ads and the more people that visit that your site more money you make since you have some who will click the ads.

People visit only for uploading files ?

Once the file is uploaded, they just hot link it from other web sites. So the image look like content of some other pages. Many use imagehost to post images on forums, blogs and ebay sales page.

If hot linking is not allowed, then people will visit your site to view the images, then you can show them your ads too...

Quite a few people upload screenshots and things and link to them from forums, not just hotlink.

It gets very annoying to hotlink huge pics on forums.

Lets say, i run image hosting, during this time, i deleted lot of abusers, who hot link. After about 6 months, you have lot of requests from all over the internet for files and web server retuens 404 error message, this will increase, requests per second that web server need to handle and will slow down the server like DDoS.
