Default How to access LayeredPanel?
Hi,

I want to access my web page to make changes in text and sales copy. I read the LayeredPanel handbook but I have not understood it sufficiently to be able to accomplish something so simple. Can anyone give me a few clues? Once I get in is it html only or can I use a WYSIWYG editor? Waiting for LayeredPanel to respond to my requests is painfully slow and frustrating.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Chuck

if you're running layered panel from your own server without cpanel or virtuosso back panel the only way to accomplish this is through SSH. I had to pick this up myself for my site when I worked with layeredpanel

I got the hang of it after trying a few things out. What you need is an SSH program such as putty to conect onto the server which you will need root access for. You then navigate to the right directory in this case /home/yoursite.com/runtime_layeredpanel/var/wkscript/www using the cd command.

You can then navigate through that directory to the file you need and edit it with the command vi file.html.

I hope that helps a bit
If you need any more help just pm

I think every layeredpanel user has the same problem !

It took me a few weeks to work it out my self, but its pretty easy once you work it out.

I use "winscp" for access, I find it easier than putty.

You need to login, then drill down on the right directory to make changes.
This is the ones to go through to reach the one you need to be in.
/root
home
Your domain
runtime_layeredPanel
var
wkscript
www
templates - this is the area you will find all the pages.

Hope this helps

Hi,
Thanks for the help. It's been a couple of days since I've logged in, hence the slow reply.
I'll experiement with the sugestions taking care not to screw up anything .
Support from LayeredPanel must be the worlds worst. Opinions may vary but there is my 2 cents.
Thanks again.

I feel your pain... it took me days to figure it all out. I suggest downloading the files to your local workstation, thank goodness for WINSCP, and making the changes there. Also, don't forget to make plenty of backups!

BTW: The default emails are located in /var/wkscript/templates/ and the default user index.html is in /var/wkscript/templates/skel/.

Good Luck and if you need help, feel free to contact me.

set your system time/date correctly...

and TBH to those who are running a free host without even basic SSH knowledge you wont get very far as you will immediatly start getting problems
