Heh. I hope you guys all read the fine print before registering. The renewal fee for that "free" domain is $35/yr, and you have to uncheck private registration to avoid being charged $9. Of course, you can probably transfer the domain to another registrar before the renewal period is up, but then, I don't know if they put any restrictions on the domain that may make said transfer difficult. Personally, I think I'll stick with purchasing a domain from a valid registrar — it's less dodgy. ^^
and you have to uncheck private registration to avoid being charged $9 didnt have that problem

^^ It will take you through the payment screens, and I believe you do have to enter payment information, but it does not actually charge you. I can confirm this as I have completed the process.

But see how you've charged 3 domains to your accounts, they cost a 35$ renewal fee. Do you have to pay that renewal fee? or just let the domain expire?
35$/yr. for each. thats 100$+ next year worth of domain funds.

Actually, it's $35 every two years. But, you should be able to transfer them away.

But say you don't transfer out, will your domains just expire. Or would you automatically be charged after the year for the renewal?

You would be automatically charged, if you did not transfer the domain away before its renewal date.

Well that sucks, instead of transfering it, is there a way to just shut down the domain?

No, but I am sure there is a function within the account control panel to turn off automatic billing. If I remember, I'll look later and see.

would you happen to know if the transfer process is difficult or if its even allowed and if theres a fee to do it?

For a domain transfer, you usually pay the regular fee to register a domain at the company to which you are transferring the domain. The transfer automatically adds a year onto the domain's registration. It has to be allowed, according to ICANN, which oversees all domain registrations. It's not really that difficult to do.

Dzelil, you do realize you're going to have to pay the 5 domain renewals right?

after the first year?

If you pay in 2yrs. its even worse. 35$ fee per domain.
5 x 35 = 175$.

Understand that the $35 covers a two-year renewal, which works out to $17.50/year/domain. Still a lot, but not as bad as $35. Just wanted to clarify that.

Yeah, still alot of money.
Though, so I can't register the domain free, and then cancel the account when its close to the expiry date?

^^ I never got a chance to check. However, I am sure there is probably a way to do that.

Yeah dude - that site doesn't load either. ;) Register.com is a well-known name, so I would recommend that folks stick with them.
