Hi,
i'm starting my homepage which is about onlines business and i won't be uploading any music or video files so the webspace is not gonna be more than 200MB or so. But if i expect to get visitors, then i would more bandwidth like 50GB or more. Can anyone help me? In return i would add your site in the partner's links menu.
Thanks!
;)
I have my own domain registered through GoDaddy, so i can set your namerservers on it. Thanks!

I am quite sure you do not need 50GBs of bandwidth if you "expect a lot of visitors" to just some html pages. You probably wouldn't need even 1/10 of that for a very frequented website.
I found that very often people believe they need such terrible amount of bandwidth but then use a very small fraction of it. However, if you really need close to 50GB of bandwidth a month, then I would say freehosting is not the way to go.

That's because he oversells, which isn't a good thing if someone really uses up that amount of bandwidth. That said, 50 GB bandwidth really is too much even for a high-traffic web site. It's very unlikely for a site to use that much bandwidth unless there's a lot of file transfers (downloads/uploads) or streaming media going on. For a really active community site, 5 GB or less of bandwith is usually enough — provided that good web design practices have been followed, of course. ^^

Yes, the blatant overselling in the freehosting (but also paid shared hosting) industry is truly getting out of control and some people tend to believe they actually need the horrific amounts of bandwidth that is being advertised by so many freehosts. I have never really liked that kind of marketing as it is misleading.
There are other aspects one should keep in mind. For example the technical limits of port speed and hard disk I/O saturation. But that would be a topic of its own.

You should really watch your words IMHO. Insulting other forum members is definitely against the forum rules.
Yes, parisdns *IS* overselling but there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone is doing that. It's just about the level of overselling. I seriously doubt you would...pardon me I meant parisdns...allow your members to really use 100GB of bandwidth per month even if you didn't have the port speed or hard drives I/O saturated.

Customers rarely, if ever, know exactly what their host is doing. But just to clarify... parisdns has several servers leased from several datacenters worldwide. Two are with SoftLayer and LayeredTech respectively, and they offer a maximum of 2000GBs of bandwidth per month (unless you get the really premium plans, and that's not counting overages). If parisdns did not oversell and every client is entitled to the 100GB bandwidth they signed up for, that would mean there should be only 20 or so accounts per server. Now, he's advertising only 100 clients per server, max, but even if he had a plan that allowed him to do that without overselling, at the prices he's offering he would barely be able to break even, let alone make a decent profit. Ergo, unless he's really philantrophic, then some overselling must be going on.
Now, this is not to belittle parisdns' business platform. The fact that he does have all those servers available is impressive in itself: it shows that the capital is there for that kind of spending. Only time will tell if the strategy works or not.
Edit: Ah, good catch, Tomas. My bad. Post edited with the correct figures. ^^

Hraefn: You have the deciman point wrong. 2000GB divided by 100 customers makes 20GB, not 200GB. So, parisdns is overselling just like anyone else. Nothing wrong with that... as long as it's "within acceptable limits". And as long as we are not faced with the schizophrenia diagnosis. Do you agree mr. parisdns, hosteur & hostkiller!?
