Even if it's not unlimited, it's still free and keep that in mind, even if you pay for the host, for unlimited package, it's still can be the same..

Unmetered would be a better term to use. Unlimitedness, or endlessness hasn't even been proven yet in in physics and science. Everyone pays for bandwidth. If you look at it logically, data, like water transfers through pipes. Wideness and length of pipes will never be 'unlimited' nor will hard drives ever have unlimited space, nor are there enough resources to make an 'unlimited' amount of anything.

It may not be metered or paid attention to by the host (which is a bad thing anyway), but it's never unlimited.

the catch is that you have to read unlimited as "unmetered", not as "infinite"

No such thing as unlimited. If one reads the terms carefully, there's always a limit to that unlimited. And its better if you are given a little, than they state unlimited and you get nothing.

    ---

back in 1998 i was selling hosting from a server in rackshack (texas). The biggest plan i offered was 500mb of disk space. It was a huge plan, more space than most would ever need. But 15 years later people want 20gb for the site. Here is the really annoying thing. 15 years later 500mb is still more than enough for most people to run their site and have space left over.

    So what happened?

Both providers and clients share the responsibility for the notion of unlimited.

Providers in their race to get more customers were offering more for less. Prices were coming down and resources were going up. Eventually providers have little left to increase without being ridiculous, thus "unlimited" was born and many use that to describe their service.

Customers never really advanced through the years, most never really knew what they needed, fear drove them to unlimited. What if i buy 5gb disk space and it's not enough, what will i do? So when they saw unlimited it solved their problem, now they did not need to worry about whether they had enough, they now had a never ending supply of resource, a bit like the unlimited petrol tank in their car!

Anyway, the thing is that little in terms of usage has actually changed. So giving the client unlimited is not in my view such a big deal. For the majority they will still not get beyond the 500mb they really need. Unlimited is just a comfort blanket for them, nothing more.

The sensible providers will of course place limits:

    1. Thou shalt not use your unlimited disk as a storage device.
    2. Thou shalt not run x,y or z to the detriment of other users.
    3. Etc...

Now none of the restrictions are going to affect the basic site owner in any way, it just deters the abusers.

So done well it's really ok.
    nice
    thanksssssss
