Newbie, What scripts do i need
Hi members of FreeHostingTalk,
I am new to this board.
I have a few Reseller accounts with me, via which i give PAID Cpanel, Helm, HSphere, Plesk and Direct admin accounts.
I have just bought a new reseller account for Free hosting (WHM/Cpanel),
Of course i will be putting on adverts (banners/popups).
Right now i just dont know how it will work out,
I will only be giving FTP access to the users to upload their websites,
If i give them root access to their domains, i dont think i can put on banners/popups with out Editing the their HTML pages,.
How could i go about this??
One of my thoughts is to give FTP access to a directory name say for example "WEBDOCS" which would be on the domain root for them to upload their website, and make some Frames or somthing where the adverts would reside.
Suggestion and idea's are desperatly needed,
Best Regards,
Sahel

I recommend just giving the code to the users to implement in their websites. This way they can fit it with their designs and you will have less work to do. Just give them like a week to put it or you delete their accounts. 60% of the users will put it and you'll get revenue.

I mainly agree with Daniel. If you do not have the economic of scale (means, you have a lot of members), you don't need an automated system.

Hi Daniel, Thanks for the Reco.
I was just thinking, Wont it be a tedeous bit of work to check every new account after a specific period, and besides, what gaurantees that the users will leave the my code on their pages? They could remove it anytime they want with out me knowing,
I dont think i'll be able to monitor all users websites throughout the year!!
How are other free providers doing this??
there must be another way.

i think you can insert ads at the apache level in http config
-
Yes,
Ads can be inserted using apache, but he would need root access from that. From what i understand he only has a reseller account.
From what i remember you can do a script in php which tells you if the code is present in a users page or not. I don't think it's that hard.
The ads which are automatically inserted into pages usually don't blend well with the users sites.

With root access, how can I insert ads in httpd.conf?
thanks

you can't unless you find a host willing to allow this which i don't know any. You might be able to find a host thats willing to allow you to run ipanel by setting up the root cronjob for you.

will not be able to uise ipanel then as it's only compatible with cpanel right now.
You would have to manually edit each account in the httpd.conf file and use mod_layout.
